The Vampire Diaries video game operates as an animated television series from Story Kitchen

EXCLUSIVE: The sensation of viral games Vampire residents is on television. Story Kitchen is working with the game’s developer, poncle founder Luca Galanti, to adapt the comedic gothic horror video game into a premium animated television series.

Described as Vox Machina meets Castlevania, players control an auto-attacking character while battling continuous waves of monsters to survive the onslaught as long as possible.

The game takes place in 2021 in the Italian countryside. “There lived an evil man named Bisconte Dracula, whose many evil sorceries created a wicked world filled with famine and suffering. Now it’s up to the members Belpaese family end your reign of terror and put good food back on the table,” reads the official description.

“There’s nowhere to hide – all you can do is try to survive the cursed night and get as much gold as possible for the next survivor – before Death inevitably puts an end to your battles. Slash thousands of creatures of the night and survive until dawn! This is a gothic horror action game, in which your choices can allow you to quickly fight hundreds of monsters thrown at you.

We are looking for a writer. The project will be shopped to animation TV network buyers.

Vampire residents was the winner of the Best Game and Best Game Design awards at the BAFTA Game Awards earlier this month. The game is Steam’s highest-rated video game of 2022 and has also been recognized as the best game by Ars Technica, GamesIndustry.biz, DICE, the New York Game Awards, and the Golden Joystick Awards. The game has also received multiple nominations from the Game Developer’s Choice Awards, The Game Awards and The Steam Awards.

Most importantly inside Vampire residents has a story, so it’s a dream come true to see what started as a little indie game I made on my weekends come to life as an animated TV show!” says poncle founder Galante. “It’s also great to work with such experienced and talented people to create the show. I wonder if they have realized that there are no vampires in Vampire Survivor.

Story Kitchen co-founder Dmitri M. Johnson said, “When our head of creative, Dan Jevon, flagged Vampire residents we were ready to dismiss it as just another vampire game last year upon its initial release. Hundreds of hours of playing later, we were all hooked and we just couldn’t get enough!! Needless to say, we are truly honored to partner with this incredible team and continue Vampire residents story!”

Added Story Kitchen’s Dan Jevon: “Despite being responsible for countless hours of lost productivity at Story Kitchen, we are both thrilled and honored to partner with poncle to create the magical world of Gothic Vampire residents for life in linear media.

Story Kitchen was founded by John Wick writer/creator Derek Kolstad, Sonic the Hedgehog film and TV producer Dmitri M. Johnson and ex APA Agent/Partner Mike Goldberg. The company currently has game-to-TV adaptations Tomb robber and Splinter Cell is produced by Netflix, Sega’s To Toey and Earl and streets of anger created by Amazon and Lionsgate respectively, Two are required created by Amazon, as well as additional partnerships that have yet to be announced.
